Writer-in-Residence
This morning as I meditated on ways in which to better support TOMMYWOOD, as I do many mornings, the following words came to mind: "Writer-in-residence."
Writer-in-residence.
I totally love the sound of that. Why not? I can imagine a cultural, not-for-profit, think tank or other institution deciding to make me their writer-in-residence. I'd certainly be willing to lecture, teach, host, edit, supervise, publish -- but mostlythe point would be to enable me to keep doing what I'm doing.
UCLA? USC? The Skirball? A high school? A think tank? A private foundation? Feel free to email me. The lines are open.
Of course there are many, many writers who have found such gigs (and I would be happy to be just another one). I am reminded of Murray Kempton's reign as "house philosopher" at the Playboy mansion. Good times, good times, for the late much-missed Kempton.
The problem, as with most things, is that you can't really apply for these gigs (can you?), and you can't sit around waiting for them to come to you (what choice is there?). So it is back to contemplating, as Lenin famously said, "What is to be done?"
More on that later......
