Bad day for Newsprint

Yesterday the Christian Science Monitor announced that it would cease publication of its weekday paper –after a centry of doing so.
Time Inc is laying off 600 employees.
The LA Times is laying off another 75 or so — the newsroom is half the size it once was.
The Newark Star Ledger is cutting 405 of its staff
TV Guide magazine was sold off –for $1
Gannett is cutting its workforce by 10% — an estimated 3000 people.
Seen in the context of the current economic collapse this may seem normal — or not as bad as the auto business — but the problem is structural — more akin the recorded music business where the delivery system is changing and the economics are based upon that old model.
