OBAMA and the French Revolution

Here’s a thought I’ve been wanting to post for a while.

There’s been some talk that although Europe was very excited about Obama, it still seems far off for a European country such as England, France, Germany or Italy to elect their own Prime Minster of African heritage.

This made me think of the founding of the United States. Our country was founded on ideas — Ideas often promulgated by European thinkers such as Jean Jacques Rousseau and John Locke.

The Declaration of indepence was signed in 1776. But it served as an example and a catalyst to European countries becoming democratic, beginning with the French revolution in 1789.

So perhaps Obama is the herald of a new day not only in the US but abroad — by raising the possibility, he may help create the reality.
