Mentalist, schmentalist

I watched CBS’ big “hit” the menatlist last night and couldn’t quite my head around it. On the positive side Simon Baker seems to have finally mastered an American acccent an ability that seemed to elude him in previous try outs. But he seems to spend too much of the show smirking, and making inappropriate comments.. Is that his talent? Also, although he is paired up, with the touch woman detective who is pure police work, there seems to be another set of investigators who are also a male and female pair, who seem to be in their own lesser Tv program.
Alessandra Stanley in today’s New York Times bids farewell to Gus Grissom of CSI and seems to hold up The Mentalist as an example of how TV has moved away from the science in CSI, or as I would term it, Evidence porno, the grisly graphically enhanced autopsies and crime scene investigations.
I don’t know, at this point, The Mentalist seems like a less entertaining version of Psych.
