Fred Goldring for US Culture Minister

At last Sunday’s Grammies Neil Portnow suggested that the US have a cabinet level representative for the Arts. Today in Variety, Phil Gallo suggests Quint Davis who has run the New Orleans Jazzfest since its inception.
I am a fan of Jazzfest — and have no objections to Davis continuing to run Jazzfest (although I heard there was a movement to bounce him out of there around Katrina time and perhaps this is his exit strategy). But I have another candidate to suggest: Fred Goldring.
Fred is an entertainment attorney in Los Angeles, former head of Rock The Vote, who was one of the Emmy award winning producers of the Will I. AM “Yes We Can” video / song.
Fred has great relationships not only with The President, Vice President and members of his team and administration but also with the studios, networks and music labels, as well as with corporation who work in the entertainment space. In addition he has great relationships with arts organizations including PS Arts. Yes, he is a friend of mine, and I would say that makes only more informed about his qualifications.
Fred’s legal and professional experiences would serve him well in this post. I hope they create it, and that they appoint him.
