Looking for Mr Goodlink

I can just imagine the pitch — if it hasn’t already been made. A remake of the 1970s zeitgeist thriller looking for Mr. Goodbar, in its internet and craigslist version. Call it “Looking for Mr. Goodlink.”

In the last several weeks, there has been a more than usual focus on the internet and its use in arranging for sex and some of the consequences of that. The Sunday New York Times Style section has run features two weeks running, the first on men “seeking arrangements”  i.e. sugar daddies and sugar babies finding each other online; and this week a story about a section on Craigslist where people find each other for sex.

Add to this the current investigation of the Craigslist murder — which began with a woman  who was offering “massage services” on craiglists and was robbed and murdered, and the arrest of a young preppy med school student who was engaged and the alleged perpetrator, and then added the twist that the young man may have had debts and/or a gambling problem and that the attacks were organized as robberies of victims who he chose thinking they were unlikely to report the robbery to the police. Money trumps sex, it seems.

Anyhow all this certainly is enough fodder for a thriller…….coming soon no doubt
