Librairie de France closing in Rockefeller Center

Reading Mark Sarvas’ blog the Elegant Variation I learned that the French bookstore in Rockefeller Center, Librairie de France was closing.
Like Mark, I also spent many childhood hours there and yes also assembled my collection of Tintins there — not mention Asterix and the occasional Lucky Luke.
The Librairie seemed very much of another era, even in its heyday — although its passing has everything to do with the raising rents in NYC (although one wonders how long they’ll wait for the next tenant) — still it is sad to see it go.
Once upon a time when bookstores were a good business, there was enough of a market place for foreign bookstores in general and French bookstores in particular.
There used to be a French bookstore on Westwood Boulevard in LA, but that disappeared a few years ago. Rizzoli used to carry French books, but then they shrunk until they too disappeared (at least in LA).
I guess all one can say is Adieu, and perhaps Au Revoir
